Dura Lex, Sed Lex

The law is tough, but it is the law. Is our "Governator" above the law? Looks like when he wrecked his motorcycle, riding with his twelve-year-old son, he didn't even have a motorcycle license. I believe that the lives of all children must be protected (even if they are children of Kennedys).

SACRAMENTO, California (AP) -- Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger was riding his motorcycle illegally over the weekend when he collided with a car in his Los Angeles neighborhood, police said Tuesday.

Los Angeles Police Lt. Paul Vernon said Schwarzenegger does not have the proper endorsement on his California driver's license to operate a motorcycle.

This is the governor?!? How can he be expected to enforce the laws when he doesn't even follow them? What else has he done? Has he bought drugs from the illegals he lets slip into the state and then sold them for a profit? Why not? He's broken one law, what is stopping him from breaking more?

Okie Lady,

Your heart is definitely in the right place. But Arnold is more than just a fellow human being. He is the Governor of our State, and we are supposed to hold him to a higher standard.

Also you seem to be paraphrasing Jesus' "he who is without sin cast the first stone," but we are not talking about sin (failure to obey God's laws), but a failure to obeys Man's laws.

About this the Bible commands us:

Romans 13:1-4, TLB. "Obey the government , for God is the one who has put it there. There is no government anywhere that God has not placed in power. So those who refuse to obey the laws of the land are refusing to obey God, and punishment will follow. For the policeman does not frighten people who are doing right; but those doing evil will always fear him. So if you don't want to be afraid, keep the laws and you will get along well. The policeman is sent by God to help you. But if you are doing something wrong, of course you should be afraid, for he will have you punished. He is sent by God for that very purpose."

In this case I guess it is arguably both a failure to obey God's law and Man's law, since the Bible orders us to obey the law of Man. But again, Arnold is our "leader." His actions here are shocking, and disappointing.

okay, arnold obviously needs to get a motorcycle endorsement... but for one who used to ride, before my epilepsy made it impossible; a motorcycle with a sidecar is exempt from needing the endorsement, that is the law in every state I have looked at.

It is possible that arnold rode without a sidecar at some point...but he was never caught doing so. Yes he should get the mc endorsement, but no, as he has not been cuaght violating the law, there is no higher standard to hold him to.

You cant prosecute someone who hasnt actually broken a law.

Who hasn't done something silly in the past? I don't know the whole issue, but if he was just taking his kid for a "ride around the block", then it was an unfortunate mistake and Gov. Swartz should apologize and admit wrong. Doesn't need a ticket, or jail, but some sort of "dang that was stupid of me" type reaction to show he's human and not above the law.

Otherwise, he's just as guilty as the next fellow in disregarding what is suppose to be called "the law".

cheers
tom
